Healing using Tui Na (pronounced 'twee-NAH) has been around for centuries. The ancient Chinese would utilize it in order to achieve balance of the chi, also called the vital energy of the body. They believed that it could restore health to joints, organs, muscles, bones and tissues. Because of its curative powers, Tui Na was used by the Chinese as a remedy against poisons and drugs.

Tui Na utilizes a variety of physical techniques to correct dysfunctional body areas. It is a type of bodywork that increases blood flow, realigns tightly the ligaments that are cleaved, reduces stress and offers many other benefits. Tui Na can effectively treat many structural and anatomical disorders. You can learn Chinese medicine or Tui Na through a private, guided practice or by studying an instruction video or manual on the internet.

Recently I had a fascinating conversation with an Spanish professor who teaches the Tui Na class at the local university. He asked me to share my knowledge about the healing technique. I explained to him that I just completed my own study and that I had also been studying Chinese medicine and working with Chinese herbalists. I explained to the Spanish professor that Tui Na is an old version of Chinese medicine, but that it was widely used in Europe before it was picked up by the Chinese.

According to the Spanish professor Tui Na's appeal lies in its appeal to both east and west. Whereas some forms of Chinese medicine are very practical, like Acupuncture, others are more philosophical, such as TCM. He continued, saying that in America, you will find many who believe that Tui Na is an additional way to sell products, such as energy drinks. This is due to the fact that most of the people who promote Tui Na don’t understand it. As a result, when they promote it, they will not really get anywhere.

The herbalist explaining Tui Na to me was promoting it on the basis of Qi Gong principles. These are the same principles I teach in my Kung Fu classes. I explained to the professor that TCM was not something I could promote to someone who didn't understand it. It was also very different from Chinese medicine. The professor then explained that he did not understand Qi Gong principles and therefore was unable to give Tui Na advice to patients without the proper training. He was unable to sell Tui Na to the public. I suggested that he distribute it to students with an understanding of Chinese medicine for a cost of course however he wasn't willing to do that.

Translating his statement into English, he stated that Tui Na was a scam to make money from people who knew the system. This isn't the only explanation however. There are those who believe that the way Professor Yang describes Tui Na makes it sound as if it were less important than Chinese medicine itself. It has also been pointed out that Tui Na is a difficult subject to learn, and many people who have mastered it have found that they are unable to apply it to its fullest potential because they do not have the discipline to keep practicing. This argument is used by those who oppose TCM.

No matter the reason, Tui Na is a issue. One reason for this is that a lot of TCM practitioners do not want to invest the time needed to learn about Chinese medicine. While this is understandable given the demands of everyday life, it raises questions about the validity of the whole enterprise. Arguments that Tui Na is irrelevant to Western medicine are founded on the fact that Western medicine has been trying to reinvent itself for a long time while the East has been doing the exact thing for hundreds.

While we have to admit that there are issues with Chinese medicine and Tui Na however, it is also true that there are some gaps that need to be filled. One of these gaps, for instance, is in the area of Tui Na sensitization. While Western medicine attempts to mimic acupuncture by using different herbs, the truth is that acupuncture increases the body's ability to respond to external stimuli. Tui Na sensitiveness is increased when the body is made to move against its own will and 출장마사지 that's the reason it is referred to as “motion-related” in Chinese. Tui Na and Acupuncture seem to be two different concepts.
