Abstract：This talk explores the emerging paradigm of sketch-guided content generation, where hand-drawn sketches serve as intuitive control mechanisms for AI-powered creation tools. We present three recent projects that leverage sketching as the primary interface for generating diverse visual content, transform detailed line drawings into high-fidelity rendered images while preserving structural integrity, enable users to create stylized motion dynamics by sketching flow patterns, and generate high-quality anime portraits from incomplete sketches. With these projects, our research group aims for advancing human-centered generative AI with human-AI creative collaboration.
Short Bio：Haoran Xie is an Associate Professor at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), leading the research laboratory on interactive computer graphics and user interface. He obtained his PhD from JAIST. After that, he joined Department of Computer Science in University of Tokyo. From 2018, he came back to JAIST to be Assistant Professor, Senior Lecture, and promoted to current position from 2023. He served as Educator’s Forum Chair for SIGGRAPH Asia 2024, Program Co-chairs of Cyberworlds 2022 and Asiagraphics Workshop on Intelligent Graphics 2025, General Chairs of NIOCGRAPH 2022 and NICOGRAPH International 2025.
