Title:Product End-of-Life Modeling and Analysis in Sustainable Manufacturing
Abstract:In view of environmental concerns, products need to be considered for their entire lifecycle from design, manufacture, usage, and to end-of-life in order to optimize the production processes and reduce impacts on the environment. Indeed, many manufacturers are increasingly embraced sustainable manufacturingfor the entire lifecycle of their products, particularly for the take-back, recovery, and the final disposal of their products. This talk will look at two aspects of product End-of-Life (EoL)analysis from IT perspective. The first EoL analysis is to present a framework with product structure-based methodology for cost modelling and analysis of closed-loop production systems.  It allows us to streamline the process of modelling a closed-loop production system for a complex product based on the product structure. A flat-panel (FPD) monitor has been developed for the case study to demonstrate the ability of the methodology to function as a tool to analyze the economic performance of closed-loop production systems. The second EoL analysis isto present a novel methodology that captures, represents and analyses the information from the EoL stages into a product information model with EoLindex. The model enables designers to make informed decision on design alternatives for optimal product EoL performance using information from the End-of-Life stage. A case study with a power tool will be used to illustrate the application of this methodology to assist designer to adopt Design for End-of-Life.
