Title:Example-based Character Rigging and Animation with Linear Skinning Models
Abstract:Linear Blending Skinning (LBS) model has been the most widely-used skinning model in entertain practices to date, however, how to efficiently construct and employ LBS model for real-time graphics applications has been a constant challenge for years. In this talk, I will present our recent research advances on LBS decomposition, extraction and compression. Specifically, I will first present a robust approach to accurately extract the linear blend skinning model with rigid bones, without and with skeleton, from a set of example poses, and a two-layer sparse compression technique to substantially reduce the computational cost of a dense-weight skinning model with negligible loss of its visual quality. In addition, I will briefly describe some potential LBS applications as well as future work.
