Abstract:
This presentation will introduce an overview of this year results of manao research group. The manao project aims at studying how light, matter and shape act together in synergies, at the convergence of Digital Optics and Computer Graphics, providing for more powerful representations of appearance. Such a high-level approach is to contrast with the main trend of modern Computer Graphics to study light, shape and matter separately.
The manaoproject specifically aims at considering information transfer, first from the real world to the virtual world (acquisition & creation), then from computers to observers (visualization & display). For this purpose, we target representations, algorithms and unified optical/digital systems that decrease the required computational resources. http://manao.inria.fr/publis.html

Short Bio:
Xavier Granier is the leader of the manao team, and professor at the Institut d'Optique Graduate School. His main research background is realistic rendering and global illumination. He has extended his interest to acquisition and modeling of material properties and light sources (at University of British Columbia - Vancouver - Canada), sketching interactions (with Zheijiang University - Hangzhou - China) and expressive rendering (previously called non-photorealistic rendering). Currently, the main focus of his research is the accurate simulation of optical phenomena and the creation of new technologies that combine the strengths of optics and computer graphics.
