Abstract：Product-Service Systems (PSS) have recently been of central attention for effective provision of diverse values. The proposed PSS design framework includes the following six steps: requirement identification and value targeting, stakeholder activity design, PSS function modeling, function-activity mapping and PSS concept generation. An activity-driven design approach is crucial in the coming years as the essence of values is in human values while physical products are just used to support activities. Computer support tools for design would therefore require significant change in their functionalities. This presentation will introduce service-dominant approach in product-service systems design and design support tools as well as service design methods and underlying notion of experience values together with a few PSS design cases developed at the Creative Design Institute, Sungkyunkwan University, Korea.
Biography：Yong Se Kim is the Director of the Creative Design Institute (http://cdi.skku.edu) and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University. He is the Principal Investigator for the Product-Service Systems Design project sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy. With his graduate education at the Design Division of Stanford University, he taught at the University of Illinois and at the University of Wisconsin in US, before returning to Korea in 2000. Professor Kim is leading the new Service Design graduate program to be launched in March 2013 at Sungkyunkwan University.
Yong Se Kim is a member of the Advisory Board of the Design Society, and will chair Design Society’sInternational Conf. on Engineering Design to be held in August 2013 in Seoul, Korea (http://iced13.org). He is the founding representative of the Korean National Chapter of the Service Design Network (http://korea-service-design-network.org). He also leads the Seoul Service Design Co-creation Network.
