Title of the report :Problems in Industrial CAD/CAM/CAE
Reporter:George Allen (Chief Technologist for Siemens PLM Software)

Place:Room 402, State Key Laboratory of CAD & CG, Library and Information Center Building B, Zhejiang University Zijin’gang Campus

Abstract
(a) Introduction to Siemens PLM (10 mins) An introduction to our company and our products, our people, and our R&D locations. I will also briefly discuss who uses our products, and how/why.
(b) Architecture of NX (20 mins) I will describe the basic architecture of the NX CAD/CAM/CAE system, and the principles we use in developing it. The size, structure and requirements of commercial software systems are quite different from research systems, and I think these differences are interesting.
(c) Problems in Industrial CAD/CAM/CAE (20 mins) A broad discussion of some of the geometric problems that arise in the real-world use of commercial CAD/CAM/CAE systems. The goal is to help the research community understand what problems exist in commercial environments today, which ones are important, and how they can help address them via future work.
