Report title:Geometric Modeling in Computer-Aided Nano-Design
Time:Tuesday, 11-22-2011, 10am
Place:Room 402, State Key Laboratory of CAD & CG, Library and Information Center Building B, Zhejiang University Zijin’gang Campus
Reporter:Dr. Wang Yan
Host:Professor Gao Shuming

Abstract:Inspired by minimal surfaces existing in nature and interested in seeking information integration between physics and geometry, we are developing a periodic surface (PS) model to describe structures for computer-aided nano-design. The surface model allows for parametric construction of highly porous structures from atomic scale to meso scale. Interactive control mechanisms of PS models were proposed. A new feature-based approach to construct crystal structures based on continuous surfaces was also developed. With the elucidation of geometry, we also can improve the efficiency of transition pathway search for phase transition simulation, which is critical in designing functional materials.
