On August 23, the result of National Distinguished Young Innovators of 2011 was released. Professor Zhou Kun of our Department won the prize with his outstanding achievements in respect of GPU high-definition painting, which manifests the status of technology like graphic and parallel system and GPU movie coloring system of our university in the field of international innovation field and presents the effects of introducing and cultivating young talents of our university in recent years.

　　Professor Zhou Kun, studying in the Computer College of Zhejiang University from 1993 to 2002, has been awarded doctor's degree in engineering and once Asian Institute of Microsoft. He returned to work in the CAD&CG National Key Laboratory of Zhejiang University as a full-time specially appointed professor of the 9^th batch of Changjiang Scholar of the Ministry of Education in 2008. In the past three years, Professor has continued his research in the fields like computer graphics, virtual reality and parallel computation, deepened the R&D of high-performance system projects like RenderAnts Pro, SPAP, Robust KD-Tree and FogGen and made numerous innovative achievements in the fields like fundamental algorithms of graphics, graphic software development platform and GPU parallel computation. Besides, he has published over 30 pieces of theses on ACM Transactions on Graphic, holds over 20 invention patents and has become a “giant cow” in the eyes of his students and colleagues.

　　In 2009, Professor Zhou won NVIDIA Professor Partnership Award; in 2010 he was awarded Excellence Award for Computer Graphics, and in 2011 he, making new accomplishment, was elected the rank of “National Distinguished Young Innovators”, which is the approval and recognition of the authority of international academic circles to his research results and will also motivate Professor Zhou and his research team to achieve new innovation in the field of graphics.
